The Secret Fire by CJ Daugherty Book Review

The Secret Fire _ Zainey Laney

Interested in fantasy young adult literature that is sure to turn into a series? This one is for you.

The Secret Fire is the first book in the Alchemist Chronicles series and is the story of a boy and girl who have never met, but their past is intertwined in fantastic ways. Sacha is 17 and can’t die…until he turns 18. His father tried to find a cure for his affliction with no success, dying in the process. Taylor has started showing some interesting powers, and finds that she almost can’t control them.

Once day Sacha and Taylor meet when their teachers match them for tutoring, even though they live in 2 different countries. Thus begins the exploration into their ancestors and how their mistakes changed the present world.

This book is really easy to read, and I found myself breezing through it in almost no time. However, I was a little frustrated by the formation of the sentences which were sometimes redundant, using the same word twice. However, I received an ARC so perhaps this would be changed in editing. Also the end did not conclude even with the cliffhanger ending, feeling almost abrupt. It did, however, leave me wanting to read the next, so it did it’s job!

The Secret Fire is available on AMAZON in both regular and ebook formats.

Sacha’s life, and the fate of the world depends on it. The clock starts NOW.
