Review
I have for years been very critical of animation on TV and Movies. I did an epic rant with my roommates on a previously owned podcast of mine on the problems with Cartoon Network. That’s what makes the discovery of a good movie so sweet.
Klaus came out last year and was immediately a favorite. This tale begins with Jesper, a spoiled entitled son of the Royal Postmaster General. Jesper’s father, seeing the error in his parenting, decides to give his son a chance to prove himself. So he sends his coddle manchild to the northernmost town of Smeerensberg. The difficulty he faces is not just the cold or the town’s rusticity, this post places Jesper smack dab in the middle of an age old feud. One might then wonder who’s mailing anything when everyone hates each other.
Netflix has afforded this first time director a top notch cast. The likes of Jason Schwartzman, J.K. Simmons, Norm Macdonald, and Joan Cusack deftly handle the comedy as well as the heartfelt moments. And the animation is wonderful. It’s reminiscent of great comic strip art.
It is very difficult to create a new classic (Elf is a great example). This is just that. Tell everyone you know about Klaus. But definitely watch it first,
