Review

I am a Hitchcock freak. I went from a childhood of watching classic Hollywood Comedies and Musicals to being introduced to Mr. Hitchcock’s catalogue in High School. Perfect timing. I’m always generous to remakes so my wife and I gave this one a try.

I decided midway through this review to watch the original but it was pretty much the same. The main differences are Armie Hammer is no Sir Laurence Olivier and Hitchcock didn’t have Netflix’s location budget.

Fair warning this is a slow burn, but enjoyable. It starts with a whirlwind romance in the south of France and ends up in a haunted house of sorts in the English countryside.

The performance of note is Kristen Scott Thomas as the creepiest housekeeper. She is far from welcoming to her new “Lady of the House”.

This is for people that enjoy Period romance, albeit 1940’s, with mystery mixed in (a la Jane Eyre).
