Review
I believe the world’s population can be broken down into two groups. Those that can’t stand Adam Sandler movies and those who love them. My household is Team Sandman. Adam’s deal at Netfix has been the best thing to happen to him and his friends. You can’t really put the words seasonal and Sandler together without mentioning the great Eight Crazy Nights. That said the last two Happy Gilmore projects starring the sandman in chief (this one and Murder Mystery) have been some of his best work. In this age of cancel culture and hyper sensitivity, he boldly returns to the affable misfit character mode (ala Waterboy).
Hubie is the self appointed safety monitor of Salem, Massachusetts. As such, he is ridiculed by almost the entirety of Salem’s citizenry. On what he considers the most dangerous of nights, Halloween, mysterious disappearances start happening The local police have long heard Hubie crying wolf and won’t back him up. So with multiple suspects under suspicion, our boy is tasked with investigating them all by his lonesome. You can’t talk about this movie and not praise the ridiculous performance of Julie Bowen. I always have great admiration for pretty people that are willing to make fools of themselves on purpose and in public.
If you’re looking for some family fun this month, especially if trick or treating is banned where you live, you should get a kick out of this one. That is if you are a proud member of the team.
