The Review
✨ The Title/Cover Draw:
- Another in the library of Melanie Summers! I am working through one book a month, and this is the first in a new series which takes place in the Avonia universe: The Crown Jewels
💜 What I liked:
- This book is similar to other “a royal is attracted to a commoner” themes. But in this one the Prince is not a jerk from the start. The main character, Tessa, is fun and sympathetic and a bit accident prone. I truly was rooting for her!
😱 What I didn’t like:
- It was too short. There is a 1.5 novella (called The Royal Engagement) in this series that would have been nice combined with this book. However, I am really looking forward to more in book 2!
💁♀️ The Characters:
- Tessa goes to stay with the royal family, including Arthur and Arabella, in order to have her mind changed about the impact they have on Avonia. Tessa’s friend Nikki stays in her apartment but is constantly in touch with Tessa.
🚦 The Ending:
- Feed nicely into the next books.
💭 Reminds me of:
- Princess Diaries, The Royal We, American Royals, and The Selection but with a nice twist on these!
All thoughts and opinions are my own.
📘 Summary:
Ultra-private, ridiculously handsome Crown Prince Arthur has always gotten by on his charm. But that won’t be enough now that the Royal Family is about to be ousted from power once and for all. When Prince Arthur has to rely on the one woman in the kingdom who hates him most, he must learn that earning the love of a nation means first risking his heart.
Twenty-eight-year-old Tessa Sharpe, a.k.a. The Royal Watchdog, hates everything about Prince Arthur. As far as she’s concerned, he’s an arrogant, lazy leech on the kingdom of Avonia. When he shocks the nation by giving her the keys to the castle, Tessa has no choice but to accept and move in for two months. It’s lust at first sight, but there’s no way she can give in to her feelings—not if she wants to have a career or a shred of pride left when her time at the palace ends…
Can two natural enemies find their forever in each other’s arms, or will they ruin each other to save themselves?
