The Review

The Title/Cover Draw:

  • This book was similar in feel to Verity. I did receive this copy from Netgalley and was extremely interested to read more of Colleen Hoover’s thrillers.

What I liked:

  • The mystery element of the book. There are paranormal things happening, but you aren’t sure what it is. The beginning of the book was told to really suck you into the story and care about Leeds.

What I didn’t like:

  • Sometimes it just went too long in the main character’s thoughts, almost to the point of over redundancy as he is trying to unravel the mystery. It gets a little boring.

The Characters:

  • I loved Leeds as a main character. Then I started to hate him because of some choices he made. But then I liked him again. I guess that is definitely a strength of Colleen Hoover, to make you care about the characters.

The Ending:

  • The twist gets a little strange here, which is probably why I finished this book so quickly. And for me the ending was slightly abrupt and a little ridiculous.

Consider if you like:

  • Verity

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Received from Netgalley.

Small Summary:

When Leeds meets Layla, he’s convinced he’ll spend the rest of his life with her—until an unexpected attack leaves Layla fighting for her life. After weeks in the hospital, Layla recovers physically, but the emotional and mental scarring has altered the woman Leeds fell in love with. In order to put their relationship back on track, Leeds whisks Layla away to the bed-and-breakfast where they first met. Once they arrive, Layla’s behavior takes a bizarre turn. And that’s just one of many inexplicable occurrences.

Feeling distant from Layla, Leeds soon finds solace in Willow—another guest of the B&B with whom he forms a connection through their shared concerns. As his curiosity for Willow grows, his decision to help her find answers puts him in direct conflict with Layla’s well-being. Leeds soon realizes he has to make a choice because he can’t help both of them. But if he makes the wrong choice, it could be detrimental for all of them.
