The Review

The Title/Cover Draw:

  • Read book 1 in this series already and really enjoyed it! Book 2 is about Jordan so getting to know more about her is really fun.

What I liked:

  • There is good representation; curvy girls, low income girls, girls of color. Also the girls are showen as real girls, and desirable as well, while showing their flaws and past hurt with complexity.

What I didn’t like:

  • Sometimes I glossed over parts where there was a lot of thinking and internalization.

What kept me reading:

  • Even though the books are slightly formulaic, the characters are relatable.

The Characters:

  • Sometimes the girls do blend together a bit and I have to remind myself who is who. But that’s only because each book is centered around one girl. I am sure by book 5 I will have a handle on all of them.

The Ending:

  • Everything ends nicely for Jordan and Kai, and then rolls into the introduction of Ginger’s story.

Consider if you like :

  • Rom-coms about plus size, fiercely real girls.

P.S – Book 3, Curvy Girls Can’t Date Cowboys is already out, and this one is about Ginger who is one of my favs.  The only ones left are Callie and Zara after that. Hoping I can get my hands on #3 soon!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Small Summary:

There are three things I hate: rich people, boys, and Kai Rush. Kai happens to be all three.

He and his dad have all the money in the world from the game app they created, and what do they do with it? They buy private helicopters and flaunt their brand new Teslas.

Never mind that people like my mom and I work multiple jobs just to keep our crappy apartment and pay for back medical bills because my dad ran scared and left us alone.

So when my mom tells me we have a new cleaning job at the Rush’s before school, I’m peeved.

When he starts texting me, I’m floored.

Fit billionaires like him and plus-sized scholarship kids like me barely belong at Emerson Academy together, much less in the same message thread.

How can I get him to see I’m not the catch he thinks I am?

More importantly, how can I get my heart to stay on the same page?
