Movie Review: Marriage Story
Available on Netflix (2019)
This movie has gotten a lot of buzz for the performances given. And rightly so. However, this type of movie is just not MY type of movie. I almost didn’t finish it because it was so uncomfortable. Also, going forward, I will be referring to the actors by their real names, and not their character names. The 2 main characters played by Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver were both so selfish, it was hard to root for either of them in this situation. In fact, I cheered when I saw Merritt Wever show up because I love her work. There are some standout moments in this movie, such as when Adam sings “Being Alive”.
My heart just broke while watching this. There was hardly ever a moment when Scarlett wasn’t crying, in fact, even in the picture above, she looks like she is smiling through the tears. The movie does everything it’s supposed to do, makes you feel like there is no winning in this situation. I will probably not watch again, but I appreciate it for what it did.
