Holiday Movie Review: Holly Star

Cast: Katlyn Carlson, Michael A Nickles

Streaming on Netflix

Short Synopsis:

A cash-strapped puppeteer returns home for the holidays and gets caught up in a treasure hunt with her paintball-obsessed best friend, her tango-dancing grandmother, and a childhood sweetheart.

So the synopsis above does not even begin to describe this movie. It’s about the holidays, but it’s also a mystery, and there are puppets. It’s the quirkiest movie I have seen so far. But the mechanics of how they tell the story (using the puppets in flashbacks/memories) is genuinely unique. The story itself is pretty typical, but that’s probably why I was drawn to this in such a strange way despite it being a little strange in it’s telling. If you like movies that are a little, well, off the beaten path… this one definitely deserves a watch.
