The Review

The Title/Cover Draw:

  • I was gifted this book by a friend and had been waiting for a good chance to read it. It’s this month’s book club pick…so here we go!

💜 What I liked:

  • The story propels you along at a steady pace, dropping clues and driving the plot in interesting ways. Even though this is a YA book, it is so good. Pippa is a sympathetic and smart character except when she confronts people by herself (REALLY!) but even then she is aware of her surroundings…mostly. I love how her analytical mind works!

😱 What I didn’t like:

  • There wasn’t a lot I didn’t like about the book. A few times something was mentioned that you think is going to pop up later that doesn’t. But I don’t mind the red herrings.

💁‍♀️ The Characters:

  • Pippa and Ravi investigate the suicide of Ravi’s brother. There are a wide range of characters in this book, but they never get confusing.

🚦 The Ending:

  • There aren’t a lot of plot holes up here. I NEED book 2!

💭 Consider if you like:

  • Truly Devious or Hunt a Killer subscription boxes.

All thoughts and opinions are my own.

📘 Summary:

Everyone in Fairview knows the story.

Pretty and popular high school senior Andie Bell was murdered by her boyfriend, Sal Singh, who then killed himself. It was all anyone could talk about. And five years later, Pip sees how the tragedy still haunts her town.

But she can’t shake the feeling that there was more to what happened that day. She knew Sal when she was a child, and he was always so kind to her. How could he possibly have been a killer?

Now a senior herself, Pip decides to reexamine the closed case for her final project, at first just to cast doubt on the original investigation. But soon she discovers a trail of dark secrets that might actually prove Sal innocent . . . and the line between past and present begins to blur. Someone in Fairview doesn’t want Pip digging around for answers, and now her own life might be in danger.

This is the story of an investigation turned obsession, full of twists and turns and with an ending you’ll never expect.
