This is the second installment of the Wayward Children series and while I enjoyed this one a lot, the first one is still my favorite. This story follows Jack and Jillâs backstory and gives us some deeper understanding of their motivations. In short, their parents are a piece of work. This is a darker book, but beautifully written, full of complex characters and almost heartbreaking realizations. What caused the rift between the sisters before they came back to the âreal worldâ in book 1? This book tells us.

Small Summary:
Twin sisters Jack and Jill were seventeen when they found their way home and were packed off to Eleanor Westâs Home for Wayward Children.
This is the story of what happened firstâŚ
Jacqueline was her motherâs perfect daughterâpolite and quiet, always dressed as a princess. If her mother was sometimes a little strict, itâs because crafting the perfect daughter takes discipline.
Jillian was her fatherâs perfect daughterâadventurous, thrill-seeking, and a bit of a tom-boy. He really would have preferred a son, but you work with what you’ve got.
They were five when they learned that grown-ups canât be trusted.
They were twelve when they walked down the impossible staircase and discovered that the pretense of love can never be enough to prepare you a life filled with magic in a land filled with mad scientists and death and choices.
