After reading, Behind Closed Doors I had high hopes for another B.A. Paris novel. I went into this book thinking it would be a thriller or domestic psychological book, but it really wasn’t. This was disappointing. I would probably have liked the story more if it was a thriller or if the synopsis had described it as more dramatic.

Also the way the story is told gets very repetitive. Each chapter gives us  one hour time period, told by either Adam or Livia. As such, many scenes are told twice with very little differences between the retellings. I kept wanting more nuggets being dropped with each retelling, however it didn’t end up that way.

The story is tragic, and you come away with it very much wondering, as the main characters do, if anything could have been done to stop what happened if the truth had been told.

You can see my video review here:

Small Summary:

It’s Livia’s fortieth birthday and tonight she’s having a party, a party she’s been planning for a long time. The only person missing will be her daughter, Marnie.

But Livia has a secret, a secret she’s been keeping from Adam, her husband, until the party is over. Because how can she tell him that although she loves Marnie, she’s glad their daughter won’t be there to celebrate with her?

Adam is determined everything will be just right for Livia and the party is going to be perfect… until he learns something that will leave him facing an unbearable decision
